From the Garden
In DC people will make a garden in whatever tight little spot they can manage, sometimes digging out the little wedge of grass between the sidewalk and the street (a tricky thing when it comes to getting in and out of the car without crushing the peppers and other veggies). We are lucky that we have a pretty nicely sized back and front yard. We don't have to content ourselves with balcony containers or other tight-quarter measures. This year however I kept it simple since we were gone for the better part of summer's start. We only have 3 tomato plants going in the font on the bottom terrace. The kids on our street love checking them for red ones. It has become a sweet afternoon pleasure to pluck a hot grape tomato from the vine and pop it right into my mouth. Pure summer bliss.
