Back To It
Yesterday marked the first day of first grade. I had mixed feelings about this.. on the one hand, ahhh peace in the house.. on the other, what summer is over? Mahlon wasn't overly excited for a new school year although school supply shopping did capture his attention. I was secretly pleased he went for a plain black bag and not a themed one. But other than the pencil case and 10,000 pencils he made me sharpen he showed little interest in going back to school, that is, until he met his teacher. Last night he told me she was "very, very, VERY nice" several times. And then this morning- a first in the history of M's school career- he announced he wanted to go to school and was actually ready 30 minutes early. He also finally learned to tie his shoes (I suppose all those years of croc wearing didn't really help). He actually picked it up pretty quickly once we got his new 'fast shoes'. They are so fast that on this- day two of school- he got in trouble for running while waiting on the bell...I'd say we are off to an auspicious start!

So cute! I think the boys have picked out non-themed backpacks too although that decision could change hourly. I still have to get my mind around school starting next week and do a little supply shopping. Nice job on the shoe tying too! Henry has figured out that Nathan can tie shoes and feels he doesn't need to learn.
