Summer in DC: Row the Boat

Rowing a boat is a heck of a lot harder than I thought it would be. Not a canoe, kayak, or paddle board but an honest to goodness real row boat. I discovered this past weekend that I had actually never been on a row boat--and that it was a pain in the,er... shoulders. We had my nephew with us and opted for two row boats since (by law) we couldn't have more than 4 in a boat on the river (the good ol' Potomac again). Chris took off with the boys and I clumsily knocked around in a puddle next to the dock while my mom stood on the pier screaming, "Haven't you ever rowed a boat before?" Clearly the answer was no. Please note that she did not offer to demonstrate or get in the boat and assist. I finally did figure it out and managed to get Lizzie and I into the middle of the Potomac, where we became stuck on a rock. Good times. No need to mention the heat wave, right? I mean you all see the news. No need to go on and on about the heat. Or how there was no breeze on the river. Or shade. Or that we were stuck on a rock. For the better part of our hour long rental. We may have scarred our children for life.
