My Public Service Announcement To You: One bottle of wine will not last an entire sunset cruise on the Gulf of Mexico. You have now been warned. I suspect most real sailors-- not tourist hack sailors like ourselves-- already knew that.
While in Florida we made our way over the line to Alabama and boarded Wild Hearts (a 53-ft catamaran) for a sail along the coast. It was one of the highlights, among the many, of our trip. The crew was fantastic and friendly. The snacks and drinks for the kiddos were free and plentiful. Lizzie noshed solidly for the full 2-hours: I never feared she would fall over because I knew she was safely inside hovering within arms reach of the goldfish and pretzels. It was BYOB/W and I really do recommend you pack a little extra. Mahlon fully took to the sailor life and was a natural onboard. We were able to watch dolphins swim just off the stern and took in a fantastic sunset. The soundtrack for the evening was Jimmy Buffett, set on repeat, of course. Yeah, I think I could handle some long term changes in latitude...
