Hand Print Pillow...

Remember this little tease from last week?

Well, it was part of Grandma Pam's housewarming/Mother's Day pillow-- which she got in the mail yesterday. I know, I'm early, for once! That in and of itself is worth celebrating (I cannot say the same for my OWN mother's gift! errr... love ya Mom!)

The pillow was made using the grandkids' hands for templates (I had their parents scan the hands and send them via email). The girl hands are the flowers and the two boy hands make up the butterfly wings. I used a cream suede on the front and a nice decorator weight blue stripe on the back. I'm sure Pam was with me when I bought it. Fabric shopping with Pam is just another reason why I have the best MIL!! (Did I mention I already have the best Mom? Thus I'm doubly blessed.)

This pillow is NOTHING compared to all the fantastic and creative gifts Mahlon presented to me at Friday's Mother's Day Brunch, but I have no time to post now. I've got to get back to enjoying my Mother's Day!
Happy Sunday!

Hi there - Just found your beautiful pillow through: http://www.childmade.com/

Just a question: Do you have a tutorial for how you made this? Wondering if you sewed on the hands or fabric glued them?

Thanks so much: christynichole@hotmail.com

Hi Christy, Thanks for introducing my to Childmade.com, it's new to me! For the hands I used wonder-under (or something similar) and ironed them onto the fabric. Then I stitched around the edges just to keep them down and outline them. I did use fabric glue for the ribbon stems and butterfly body. Hope that helps. I don't have a tutorial, I used this one as my inspiration, http://www.cluckclucksew.com/2009/10/tutorial-scrap-buster-fall-pillow.html

So darn cute! Now you have me thinking of all the possible things I could have made for the grandmothers for mother's day, but instead I was too lazy and just sent gift cards.
