I had no idea, I mean, I'd heard about models and their odd behaviors/moodiness, but until the other day I had no idea the extent of it! I showed up (on time) for the Pirate Booty dress photo shoot (part of the Lil Blue Boo and Dharma Trading Co. Design Challenge) but man... this baby model had no intention of working with me. Just in her own two-year old world, doing her own two-year old thing... like jumping on the bed! Really? Her mother let's her jump on the bed? I can tell you one thing, a super model coddled like this has no interest in following direction that's for sure.
The dress featured an artistic re-use of her cousin's (slightly stained) toddler "Pirates of the Caribbean" tee with coordinating soft and scrumptious jersey cut from two Talbots' tees donated by the model's grandmother.
Finally the little princess stood still and I was able to capture the above shot showing a pirate treasure map which, I was told by the designer, was drawn free-hand on freezer paper and carefully stenciled onto the dress. The pause in action occurred when she caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror. Typical.
Oh but she is a cutie! And she knows it. Goodness but you should hear her parents go on and on and on about her. You know how crazy the parents of these kids can be.
Finally she takes some direction, Come on baby, smile for the camera! Give me that Pirate ARRRRR! If only her mother had cleaned the mirror. I mean, really, how am I supposed to work like this?
There it is, the money shot! X marks the spot on this Pirate Booty dress.
By the way, this is the last time I work with a wannabe designer, super baby model, and the child's high anxiety mother. Honestly, I probably won't even get paid.

The Pirate Booty dress was made from 3 recycled t-shirts using the Sienna Dress pattern from Lil Blue Boo. Right now, Ashley of LBB is hosting a design challenge with Dharma Trading Company whereby you are to use one of her patterns and some other sort of embellishment. I went with a freezer paper stencil (using freezer paper and paint purchased from Dharma). The stencil is of a pirate treasure map that wraps around the back, with an "X" marking the spot (trust me it's no treasure you'd want, just a dirty diaper under there!). There you have it, my Pirate Booty dress!

Cute dress, but even better was the writing for the post. ;)
love the photo editing. did you use an action?
Dana- Yes, I'm currently addicted to FloraBella's actions and textures. Seriously, I can't get enough and run all my pics through a dozen different ways now. It's become a sickness! On my computer they look fine but I noticed on my husband's computer they are rather dark??? I wonder how others see it? Light? Dark? - Buona Domenica!
Karen - This dress is the most adorable thing I have ever seen. Can you make one for us girls in adult sizes???? :) Jenny
P.S. Your follow-up book to Italy needs to be about fashion :).
