The Birthday BOY Shirt...

The other day I shared Natalie's birthday shirt and today I'm going to show you the one I made for Kelton. Coincidentally, they share a birthday. But that probably means nothing to them since they don't know each other. Natalie is part of Chris' California clan and Kelton belongs to my Maryland bunch.

Using some techniques I picked up from Ashley over at Lil Blue Boo (love that site!) I decided to recycle an old Batman shirt (that was Kelton's before he handed it down to Mahlon). The shirt was stretched, faded, and stained, the perfect candidate for a project like this.

I cut out the graphic and appliqued it to the font of an orange and white waffle weave shirt I picked up at the Gap the other day. Then, using some freezer paper from Dharma Trading Co I printed a bat image and "01-09" (his birthday) right onto the paper. You just cut out your shapes and iron them on. With some white fabric paint I filled in the spaces, let it dry, and peeled the paper off.

I think it turned out pretty darn cute- and boy. But it felt like something was missing... ah yes, every Batboy needs a super cape! Thus, another cape was whipped up (I will admit to some technical difficulties with my machine. Oddly enough after calling my Mom and crying about the sewing machine it magically started working again! The power of Mom is an amazing thing!!) *Note, Mahlon is only allowed to stand on furniture when modeling things mom has made.

No need to do a mad dash for the mailbox on this gift. Kelton and his brothers are spending the night with us for his birthday! We have a big day planned and it happens to include a squeaky little chipmunk. Mahlon can hardly wait.
